|
Peter
Prochnow comes from an active family of music ministers and
teachers in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. His
grandfather, Ernst, served as music minister for over 44
years at Trinity, Bloomington, IL. His father, Ron, served
40 years as music minister in the Lutheran Church. His mom,
Jean, is celebrating her 38th year as a teacher in Lutheran
Schools. When he was 3, Pete began music lessons, first in
violin and then piano. Through his elementary years he
developed skills in arranging, composition and performing.
He has always sought to use his gifts to glorify and serve
God.
In 1988, he received his BA in Music from Concordia College,
Seward, NE. Peter continued his education 1991 receiving a
Masters degree in Music Education from Florida State
University. He taught in the alternative education
department of Orange County Florida as a music therapist and
music teacher. At the same time, he assisted a task force in
developing a "contemporary" music program at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Orlando Florida. Over eight years, he
composed, arranged and developed music for that ministry,
along with recruiting musicians from both the congregation
and the professional music world. The "contemporary"
service, titled "New Dimension" soon became the most
attended worship service at Trinity in Orlando. Out of that
worship experience, he developed a music group called
"Horizons". Both the Florida Georgia District and other LCMS
congregations throughout the country began to utilize
"Horizons" and their hymn adaptations.
Pete received various awards and recognitions from both the
County School Board and Commissioners for his work in the
schools. In 1994 his group "Horizons" received a Grammy
nomination for their hymn adaptation recordings of "Jazz for
Christmas". He has composed and arranged music for various
television documentaries, museums and various shows
including the documentary:
"Sister I'm Sorry" produced by Blair Underwood featured on
the Oprah Winfrey show.
Peter founded "Lutheran Music Missions" in 1999 which gives
away sponsored hymn adaptation charts and educational
materials for church musicians. Pete currently works full
time at Zion Lutheran Church Kalamazoo, Michigan as
?Minister of Music Outreach? coordinating and directing
music ministry, supporting the best of our Lutheran heritage
and exploring new approaches to Gospel outreach through the
gift of music. Pete's wife Beth is currently an Admissions
Counselor at Concordia University, Ann Arbor.
